Hello everyone, Had a fun day at the north end today. Caught a really big shark which took about 1 hour to get to the beach. It was a little over 5 feet long and weighed about 120 to 130 pounds. Did not have a scale with us. Was going to take it to rip tide but alot of beach people were going crazy about us putting it back in the ocean. They were really being a pain in the butt. We are not sure what kind of shark it was. We have caught brown sharks before but this was not a brown. I am thinking it was a bull shark. I have pictures in my aol albums but i dont know how to show them here. Sent them to Andy at Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine and he is going to try and find out for me. If anyone knows how i can get the pictures on here just let me know and i will try to do it. It is a really cool looking shark and would like to show it so you can check it out. It had a tint of blue and did not have a real long tail like a mako. It had a full rack of teeth though.

UPDATE: Today i took all the pictures to the Brigantine Marine Mammal Stranding Center and the two marine biologists on duty told us without a doubt it is a BULL Shark. Have not seen them around here in a very long time. They say they eat everything in sight. Hope they leave soon so we can catch some fish. But it was fun.

Nice catch off the beach, congrats. ARMS1.gif

It looks like a big female Sandbar/Brown shark. The dorsal is right over the pectral fins and the last dorsal is very close to the tail, all good ID info. wink.gif

Yep, looks like a brown/dusky. If you do keep one, make sure you skin and gut it right away or the meat will have that horrible ammonia taste.

Wow, that one's beefy shark. I know we've gotten them on bunker before, but I can't comment on what was used for bait. That must've been one heck of a fight.
