Fly Fishing Harker's Island, NC For Albies

We caught some False Albacore in Harker’s Island, NC. We fished out of Beaufort Inlet. Fishing was tough but we still managed a few fish on the fly as the water has not yet reached optimum temperature. We utilized 9 weight set-up’s and intermediate and sinking line to 350 grains. Jiggy flies and Clouser Minnow’s were the flies we were throwing. I went with five guys from Atlantic Salt Water Fly Rodder’s one fished.

We trailered the 18’ Wahoo down and we made up the Scaleman team. We stayed at a Day’s Inn in Atlantic Beach, NC which had a ramp and docks on the facility. Our room overlooked a salt marsh, then the boats and then Bouge Sound. We were 6 miles from the inlet.

Saturday night was a big fly fishermen round up. Some 200 Salt water fly rodders were in Harker’s Island to kick off the False Albacore Season.

Looking forward to next season.
